Aida Begic-Bosnian film director of the movie "SNIJEG" (SNOW)


































Aida Begic

was born in Sarajevo in 1976. She graduated directing at Sarajevo Academy of Performing Arts in 2000. Her graduation film FIRST DEATH EXPERIENCE was presented at Cinefondation Official Selection of 2001 Cannes Film Festival and won numerous awards at festivals worldwide. In 2003 she directed her second short film NORTH WENT MAD. Aida Begić is teaching directing at Sarajevo Academy of Performing Arts and has directed numerous commercials, video spots and promotional films. In 2004 she founded an independent production company MAMAFILM together with her colleague Elma Tataragić and SNOW is their first feature film.







The 14th Sarajevo Film Festival kicked off Friday with a screening of Aida Begic's debut feature "Snow," about life in a village in postwar Bosnia.Aida Begic' film "Snow" world premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Fest in the Critics Week sidebar.Aida Begić prefaces the director's notes to her first narrative feature Snijeg ( Snow ) —winner of the 2008 Cannes Critics' Week Grand Prize.The Sarajevo Film Festival got off to a strong start with the Bosnian premiere of Aida Begić’s debut feature, already the winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique.




Aida Begić graduated in 2000 from the Department of Film and Theatre Directing of the Academy for Performing Arts in Sarajevo. Her graduation film THE FIRST MORTAL EXPERIENCE was shown at more than 20 international film festivals, including Cannes (Cinefondation), and won the Best Short Film Award of the Ourense Film Festival, the Critics’ Award of the Huesca Film Festival, the Methexis Award of the MedFilm Festival...She is also the author of documentaries AUTOBIOGRAPHY and TRIUMPH OF WILL, and the short film THE NORTH HAS GONE MAD.

recently, I saw "Snijeg" (in polish it's pretty simillar"Śnieg") last week on Warsaw's film festival. oh. great!

Just found your blog because of researching Aida Begic and her film Snijeg, which I TRIED to see at the Sarajevo film festival last year but couldn't because it was sold out. It must be a wonderful film! I saw Aida Begic around at the festival and on T.V. and was very impressed with her style

'But wait there's more!' I really enjoyed my year in Sarajevo and all three previous trips to Bosnia Hercegovina! The people are super and it was an experience I wish EVERYONE could have at least once!
